Some weddings are beautiful because of the flowers. Some are beautiful because of the setting. And some are beautiful because every single detail has a purpose.
Nic + Matt’s wedding at Wind Mountain Ranch was all three.
Set above the Columbia River Gorge, Wind Mountain Ranch provided the perfect backdrop for a wedding that felt deeply personal, incredibly intentional, and completely reflective of who Nicole and Matthew are. The property itself strikes a beautiful balance between rugged and refined—a place where sweeping river views meet the structure and warmth of a ranch on a hill. That contrast (which reflected their personalities) became the heartbeat of the entire design.
From the very beginning, Nic + Matt wanted their wedding to tell their story. With an overarching theme of “river meets ranch,” we pulled inspiration from both worlds, weaving together water, stone, movement, texture, and organic beauty with stronger architectural lines and darker, more grounded design elements. The result was a wedding that felt both feminine and masculine, whimsical and structured, artistic and approachable.
And honestly? It couldn’t have felt more like them.
Before guests ever arrived in Hood River, they were introduced to the wedding through one of the most thoughtful invitation suites we’ve ever had the pleasure of creating.
Working alongside the talented Zoe at June Press, the suite became a true collaboration of creative minds. Unique alignments, beautiful typography, intentional wording, and a stunning watercolor artwork piece all came together to create something that felt entirely custom. One of our favorite details was a quote by Alan Maicon:
“In life collect friends; like precious pearls.”
That sentiment became a thread woven throughout the entire wedding weekend.
Even the return address carried intention, featuring a whimsical swirl shell detail that added personality and playfulness to an otherwise elevated suite. Every piece felt considered and meaningful—exactly the way Nic approaches design in her own career as an interior designer for luxury hotels.
If you’ve ever met Nicole, you know she has impeccable taste. She loves texture. She loves lines. She loves pairing together elements that aren’t necessarily obvious companions and somehow making them feel like they were always meant to be side by side. This wedding reflected that beautifully.
Guests were welcomed with handmade popsicles from Flora Hill, a beloved small-batch popsicle company from Nic + Matt’s hometown of Vashon Island. It was a thoughtful touch and immediately set the tone for the experience ahead.
The ceremony took place on a bluff overlooking Hood River in what can only be described as an undeveloped lot just across from Wind Mountain Ranch. The location felt wild and untouched, allowing the natural beauty of the Gorge to take center stage.
Guests were seated amphitheater-style, creating an intimate experience despite the expansive views. The reserved seats were marked with rocks collected from Nic + Matt’s own beachfront property on Vashon Island—a subtle but meaningful way to bring a piece of home into the celebration.
The ceremony itself was one of the most moving we’ve witnessed.
Rather than simply exchanging rings, the couple invited every guest into the experience. The rings began with Nicole’s mother and ended with Matt’s mother, passing through every set of hands along the way. Each guest took a moment to offer a blessing, share a wish, or quietly set an intention for the couple’s future together.
It was beautiful. Personal. Emotional. And completely unforgettable.
The ceremony florals, designed by Isaflora, struck the perfect balance between grounded and whimsical. Organic blooms seemed to emerge naturally from the landscape, while striking black pedestals—an idea Nic championed—added structure, contrast, and visual weight to the design. The combination felt artistic and unexpected in all the right ways.
Following the ceremony, guests made their way to the west patio at Wind Mountain Ranch for cocktail hour.
With panoramic views of the river and a sunset slowly beginning to unfold, guests gathered around curated lounge areas, bistro tables, and the beautifully styled bar while enjoying live music and an incredible spread of food.
The menu was unforgettable.
Guests sampled bites like hot honey glazed fried chicken paired with pickle and aioli, crusty avocado topped with ahi tuna, ceviche served in endive leaves, and a variety of other thoughtfully prepared hors d’oeuvres.
Behind the bar, cocktails were every bit as intentional as the design. Guests chose from classic and reimagined Old Fashioneds, grapefruit Palomas, pear shrubs, and a selection of local wines and beers.
Meanwhile, photographer Gabriel Ramirez created one of the coolest guest experiences of the evening.
Set against a hand-painted backdrop created by Chasing Stone, Gabe photographed guests throughout cocktail hour, creating beautiful portraits that felt equal parts editorial and personal. Watching guests step in front of the backdrop, fully embracing the moment and having fun with it, became entertainment in itself.
As guests transitioned into dinner, it became immediately clear that no detail had been overlooked.
The seating chart was a work of art in its own right, embracing a wabi-sabi aesthetic that celebrated texture, imperfection, and craftsmanship.
Inside the reception space, Isaflora once again worked her magic.
Rather than filling tables with excessive florals, the arrangements were sculptural and intentional. Ikebana-inspired designs created movement and visual interest, while a stunning sidecar arrangement made entirely of chocolate cosmos provided a dramatic companion piece.
The tables felt minimal, yet impactful.
There was soft candlelight alongside sleek table lamps—the same style Nic frequently utilizes in luxury hotel projects—creating a warm glow throughout the evening. Every plate, napkin, piece of flatware, and glass was carefully selected to contribute to the overall feeling of the space.
One of our favorite details were the oyster shell place cards from Tuze, each hand-lettered by Zoe of June Press. Tiny pearls adorned the shells, subtly continuing the pearl motif introduced in the invitation suite months earlier.
Waiting at each table was a beautiful linen menu outlining the evening’s meal: fresh salads from G-Love followed by wood-fired pizzas from Stovepipe.
Every choice felt deliberate.
Every detail felt connected.
And together, they created an atmosphere that was elegant without being overly formal, artistic without feeling forced, and deeply personal without sacrificing beauty.
It takes a remarkable team to execute a wedding with this level of thoughtfulness, and Nic + Matt were surrounded by some truly incredible professionals.
Wind Mountain Ranch continues to be one of our favorite venues to work at. Beyond the breathtaking views, the team is consistently helpful, collaborative, and genuinely invested in creating an exceptional guest experience.
Serafina of Wildeflower Collective was an absolute joy to work alongside. Her calm professionalism and natural approach to beauty ensured Nicole looked and felt completely like herself—just the very best version.
Isaflora’s floral work was extraordinary. In addition to creating the ceremony and reception florals, Iz designed two separate bouquets for Nicole—including a sculptural bouquet made entirely of black-centered white anemones that felt like a modern work of art. Seeing Nic carry both bouquets throughout the day added another layer of creativity and personality to the celebration.
And Gabriel Ramirez Photography worked tirelessly from beginning to end, documenting not only what the day looked like, but what it felt like. The resulting imagery is the kind that will only become more meaningful with time.
The thing we’ll remember most about Nic + Matt’s wedding isn’t any single design element, flower, or detail.
It’s the care.
The intention.
The thoughtfulness behind every choice.
From the invitation suite to the oyster shell place cards, from the passing of the rings to the black pedestals overlooking the river, every element told a piece of their story.
No detail went unplanned. Everything was selected with purpose.
And in the end, that’s exactly what made this wedding so unforgettable.
